SAP DATA SERVICES (PRODUCT TUTORIALS)

What is the Data Services product?
In this 10-minute video you will build a Data Warehouse with one Fact table and a Slow Changing Dimension to get an idea how Data Services is used. Video

What is so special about Data Services?
Data Services is an ETL product like any other. But there are different product philosophies: one tends to do everything inside its own engine - the traditional ETL tools; the other pushes down the entire processing to the database with its powerful engine - so called ELT tools. Both methods have their pros and cons, and hence Data Services does both. That’s harder for us to develop, but easier for you to use. Video

ETL is more than just moving data

Data Quality
Copying data can be done with hand-coded scripts as well. So what is the advantage of using an ETL tool like Data Services?Video

Docs and Reports
Are you using scripts or a tool that is close to programming for your ETL task? Have you documented what these scripts are doing? In Data Services an entire feature set is around Self-Documentation, Operational Dashboards, and more. Actually, if you would use Data Services to document your code it would not take you any longer than creating comments, but you get all the advantages for free - and very likely better performance as well.Video

Performance of Data Services
Even the easiest to use ETL tool does not help much if the performance is not good. See what the performance of Data Services is and why all the published ETL benchmarks are meaningless.Video

In this tutorial, you will create delimited text file formats and use them in a data replication job.

Use Replication Wizard (4.1)
A 10-minute simulation using the replication wizard in the Data Services 4.1 Workbench to replicate a data warehouse from one database to another.

Edit Replication Job (4.1)
A 10-minute simulation editing a generated replication job by adding a filter, changing some mappings, looking at some more advanced capabilities, and then viewing the result in Data Services Designer.

Promote Data Services Objects (4.2)
In this tutorial, you will configure the object export and object import environment and promote objects from a central repository to a local repository.

The Global Address Cleanse transform takes as input any address information and matches that, using different engines, against its Address Dictionary. The transform uses its internal knowledge how address lines are written to parse it into its segments and also corrects typing errors.

REGION-SPECIFIC FUNCTIONALITY
The Data Cleanse transform is used to perform parsing, standardizing, and enhancement of customer and operational data.
The Geocoder transform uses geographic coordinates expressed as latitude and longitude, addresses, and point-of-interest (POI) data to append data to your records. Using the transform, you can append address, latitude and longitude, census data, and other information. For census data, you can use census data from two census periods to compare data, when available.

SAP Data Services Text Data Processing enables you to perform natural language processing and extraction processing on unstructured text.
Address Reference Data is address "lookup" information, collected from authoritative data sources across the globe. Three types of Reference Data is used during processing: a parsing dictionary, which contains common phrases found in an address block, country-specific directories, which contain detailed delivery point information, and the All World directory, which contains the data found on the last line data of an address block, such as locality, region, and postal code.
